So what’s it like to travel fulltime in a RV with 2 big dogs?
•

•
Seriously, we purchased a handheld battery powered Dyson and we vacuum every other day. It’s a mandatory requirement.
•
We’ve blogged about traveling with dogs specifically on our website but we’ll hit some high level tips here.
•
1. Make digital copies of all vaccines and vet records. We use Dropbox to store them in the Cloud for easy access on multiple devices.
•
2. Maintain communication with your “homebase” Veternarian. Send them updated records if you take your dog to another Vet.
•
3. Flea & Tick preventatives. Obviously, this is critically important for your dog(s), but if you plan to be on the road for an extended period of time, buy these preventatives in BULK. We keep 4-6 months of these with us in our RV.
•
4. Purchase a “Canary” home monitoring device. Not only do these come with a wide angle HD camera and a two-way communication microphone it also measures and monitors temperature, humidity, & air quality levels inside your RV. ALL incredibly important with dogs and travel in a RV. We take them most places we go, but sometimes we leave them at ‘home’. Canary helps us make sure they are safe in our absence.
•
5. Not all campgrounds accept dogs. I know...lame right? We use these apps to find out their pet rules. Campendium ~ KOA ~ Recreation.gov ~ The Dyrt ~ and Hip Camp.
•
6. Exercise and routine walks are a must. Some campgrounds have fenced in ‘pet areas’ but many times these are small for big dogs. We use these 2 apps/services to help us locate State Parks and Trails to take them to. All Trails ~ Trip Advisor (Trip Advisor doesn’t necessarily specify, but there are reviews that often let you know as well).
•
7. Locate nearby Doggie Wash stores. Many times you can do all your pet shopping there as well. These places (like Pet Supplies Plus) have bath stations for $10 per dog and you can use all of their supplies to wash your dog. As an added bonus, they clean up after you use! Well worth the $ since bathing dogs in a RV is NOT easy.

True story, back in our sticks and bricks home in Nashville we had 3 outdoor living spaces. A large covered back patio, a front porch, and an upstairs deck from our master bedroom. The sad truth was that we simply lacked the time to use them and enjoy them. Weekends came and went fast & weekdays were comprised of busy work schedules and other responsibilities.
•
Almost 16 months later, we traded all 3 of those spaces, the lack of time, & the traditional ‘rooted’ lifestyle for our nomadic and rootless life. Today, we have more consistency in our schedules to spend outside enjoying those beautiful days. This consistency gives us more freedom to slow down more and be present in the world instead of watching it go by.

We have 3 main things we do that we’d consider ‘quality time’...and every one of them is together. Vacations, Hiking & playing with our dogs, & Hitting the gym. (Truthfully, anything we do together is high quality 🙌🏻).
•
That last one happens at least 3 days a week and we’re pretty consistent 💪🏻. Not only is it great for our individual mental, physical, & emotional well-being, it strengthens our relationship. There’s nothing better than having someone to do burpees with 🤢😂.

~ While we haven’t seen much of the sun since we arrived, we’ve gotten a glimpse of how epic the sunsets are. ☀️.
•
~ Texans LOVE their Donuts. No joke, every corner or intersection you can find a donut shop open for business. 🍩.
•
~ It’s true y’all, EVERYTHING is bigger in Texas. Driving our F-350 around town, we fit right in. Big and bigger trucks are everywhere. 🚚.
•
~ Supposedly the “Texas Way” promotes friendly driving. We’ve yet to experience that. Much of the same honestly. 🚗.
•
~ Speaking of driving, apparently the ‘slow’ lane is the left lane and everyone passes on the right around here. 🤷🏻.
•
~ Everything is ‘smoked’. At the deli getting my sandwich meat for lunches this week, my choices were smoked BBQ turkey, smoked herb turkey, BBQ Smoked chicken, smoked Gouda cheese, etc. It’s ALL DELICIOUS. 😋.

Back to the grind today. Meredith started her new assignment this morning, which can be a little nerve-wrecking. New place, new faces, new equipment, new people, different systems, etc. The first week can be a little disorienting. Fortunately, she’s a quick learner, dedicated to her job, and passionate about what she does. That disoriented feeling will get better after the first week. 👩🏻‍⚕️👨🏻‍💻

This Weekend...
Us: “We’re new to town”.
Them: “Where are you coming from”?
Us: “Nashville, TN”. (We always say Nash 😉).
Them: “What on Earth brought you to Tyler, TX”!?!?
Us: “We travel and work fulltime on the road in our RV”.
Them: “Whattt?!! Tell me more”!•

Over the weekend, we chatted with some folks that got excited to hear about what we do. One was an older gentleman who stated “it’s refreshing to see younger folks thinking creatively and taking advantage of what life can be”. The other was someone a little younger than we are who mentioned “y’all are literally living my dream”! He has dreams of converting a Skoolie for traveling fulltime. It’s encouraging to hear people respond this way. It keeps us motivated and reminds us that everything we experience while on our journey is truly a blessing. Good or bad. It all creates lasting memories we’ll always have. 🙌🏻.

We’ve said this before, but life doesn’t have to be one dimensional. You don’t have to live a life that you are ‘supposed’ to live. Is there something you’ve always wanted to do? Does the fear of unknown or others perceptions prevent you from experiencing ‘xyz’? Think about yourself 30 years from now, will YOU be better for having tried/experienced what you want? 😎.

Dig deep, find your motivation, speak up about your passions, think creatively, be different, & LIVE A MULTIDIMENSIONAL LIFE. 💪🏻.
