Controlling Your Controllables: A Guide For Thriving During 2020

What is controlling your controllables?

Life Has Certainly Changed These Days

What is life these days? Certainly not the same as it was. Maybe for some things it isn’t, but for others it seems unchanged. 2020 has proven to be a year where time passes so slowly, yet it’s crazy to believe July is already here.  Last year at this time we were riding physical rollercoasters at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA and this year we’re riding the emotional rollercoasters of 2020. You know how many books are going to be written about this year? More than I can count that’s for sure.

Staying in Control of What we can Control

Something we decided at the beginning of this was to control our controllables. There’s simply too many things outside of our control at the moment. When we focus on what we can control it gives us peace of mind. It empowers us to keep focused.

“Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don’t”. —Steve Maraboli

We focus our control on…
>Our marriage
>Our communication
>Our budget
>Our dreams
>Our savings
>Our doggos
>Our faith
>Our mental & physical health
>Our time
>Self Educating

We let go of…
>Other people’s stress & anxiety
>Anything outside of our “4 walls”
>Toxic Mindsets
>Predicting the future (we only plan)
>Accepting defeat (we prefer to rise up)
>Negative situations
>Things that don’t bring value to our life
>Engaging in pointless arguments

“Freedom is the only worthy goal in life. It is won by disregarding things that lie beyond our control”. —Epictetus

Like most of you, we’re ready for 2020 to move on, but in the meantime, we’re in control of our controllables.
