Original Clapboard Replacement Complete

April 7th, 2022: Front Gable Clapboard Replacement Complete with a story…

Up next is the clapboard siding under the porch, but first…a story.

A few nights ago one of the family members who previously lived here sent me a message with a zoomed in image of an old sealed in cutout in the clapboard located at the very top of this front gable near the peak of the roof. His messaged contained a vivid memory of one Christmas Day years ago that would be a nightmare for most.

His family experienced a fire in their home on Christmas Day. Just awful.

In fact the fire raged so hard, the entire roof our our home was removed and rebuilt, but despite the awful experience he shared of dealing with a threatening fire on Christmas Day, he reflected on what happened that likely resulted in saving the entire house from burning that day.

In his words…

“I still remember standing in front of the house on Christmas Day when it was on fire. The fire chief asked our dad if it was OK to cut that hole in the front to put water on the fire. Dad told him to do whatever he would do if he were trying to save his own house! So they cut the hole and probably saved the house from total destruction. Seeing the outline of where they cut the hole up there reminded me of that, and I just thought I’d share that thought with you”.
